ENE started as a project in 1990, by Scott Hudgins, Rob Miller and Paul Bethel. After several cassette releases, Paul Bethel's departure and the addition of Chris Bush, the ENE core group was complete. Because members don't always live in the same locations, ENE can be both a solo project for Scott Hudgins and a band.

ENE has played live with Matmos, Lesser, Kid__606, Disc, Labradford, DJ Spooky, DJ Olive, We, Dead Voices On Air, Windsor For The Derby, Surfers Of Romantica, Birds Of Tin, and a host of others. They have played in New York, Richmond, Baltimore, Washington DC and Japan on numerous occasions.

Live playing and improvisation are a very important part of ENE's music, but it is not the sole focus. ENE can take on many forms but it is never arbitrary. One of the goals of ENE is to present music differently and refreshingly, moving forward at all times and in all aspects.

This, their third album (after numerous singles and splits), is yet another milestone for ENE's 11-year career. Whether being a mainstay in the American underground scene or a college chart topper in Japan, ENE has been the constant innovator. Cost vs. Conscious is no exception as it is an assault on accepted notions of electronic music. Taking a cue from both Aphex Twin and Spring Hill Jack, Scott Hudgins (aka ENE) twists beat structures within "Cost vs. Conscious" until they become something entirely new. The end result is an adventurous mixture of techno, jungle, and hip-hop that enthralls the listener with an off-center poppy style that works on and off the dance floor. It is this style that led the esteemed indy rock band, Labradford to commission remixes from ENE. MMR is very proud to present ENE's Cost vs Conscious upon the world.
