The Void

The Void

So what is the void? People reference it but do any of them actually know what it is or are they just parroting an idea/feeling? I would assume there are many people in the latter camp – our apocalyptic consumerism has distilled concepts like this down into self help quotes and home decor. However, there are many (likely still in the minority) who are intimately acquainted with the void. Notice I said "intimately" - that is because there is no singular answer to "what is the void?" — as all the answers are personal in nature. Though the void is infinite/eternal – each of us has a relationship to it. Whether we know it or not (and often you are better off not knowing).

So what is the void to me? It is the all encompassing truth about our existence. It is the undeniable proof of our lack of importance and our infinitesimal place in the universe. Much like the ocean in a decaying town, the void is constantly trying to reclaim humanity and the lives we have built. It is the knowledge that reality is chaos and suffering is the most dominant side product of chaos. In short, it is our manufactured reality peeled back, revealing pure blackness and the facade of life.

Many of us (a past version of myself included) instinctively know not to seek it out. That is best left ignored while we tell ourselves sweet little lies about humanity. Sometimes however, we are forced to face it. Usually it is because of a harsh realization brought on by trauma or some other mechanism that hits you at your core.

Which bring us back to the drone - the antithesis of the void. The fundamental nature of the drone is the literal sound of creation – the beginning of our universe (either from a birth or big bang perspective). It is the sound that we all know and that we belong to. Within the sound is only oneness and the extension of creation. Where there was only blackness and a void, there is now life. For those who have gazed into the void, the drone provides the way out. Showing us that despite the chaos, life is wondrous.
