August and September Ambience

August and September Ambience

These are usually monthly but time got away from me but back on track now.

August

  1. Cosey Fanni Tutti - Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and the Legendary Tapes OST. A collaboration across time between the equally amazing artists, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Delia Derbyshire. A wonderful piece of work for a fascinating docudrama.
  2. Tangerine Dream - The Virgin Years 1974 - 1978. These are seminal years for Tangerine Dream. Phaedra and Rubycon were released (among others). Important foundational music that still stands up today
  3. Cosey Fanni Tutti - 2t2. A rhythmic and ambient electronic exploration by an artist who has seemingly done it all. This release is both haunting and beautiful – will make the best of 2025.
  4. Gnod - Spot Land. Review is here.
  5. Golden Brown - Whisker Fatigue. A wild psychedelic ride through hallucinatory electronics, lap steel and much more. Music to explore and get lost in.
  6. Cluster and Eno - S/T. An album that should need no introduction. This is an amalgamation of their styles. What strikes me most is how subdued Cluster is on this release. Definitely Eno's influence. If you don't know it, buy it post haste.
  7. Yutaka Hirose - Voices. A WTF release – it is just wild. Plunder phonics but not. Every time this comes on, I stop what I am doing and just listen. Experimental without alienating the listener.
  8. Carlton Melton - Turn to Earth. Prog rock? Psychedelic rock? Space Rock? I don't know but you can't go wrong with this band.
  9. Laura Agnusdei - Flowers are blooming in Antarctica. Review is here.
  10. Warmth - Home. Two hours of blissful ambience. A go to when I need to unplug my mind.

September

  1. Trees Speak - Time Fold. Modern Berlin School that completely envelopes you.
  2. Tangerine Dream - From Virgin to Quantum Years: Coventry Cathedral 22. The modern incarnation of Tangerine Dream that at this point has none of the original members. Either because they have passed away or they have moved on. Regardless, the current members are keeping the spirit alive and it is still worth your attention.
  3. Ø - Sysivalo. A posthumous release by Mika Vainio. Personally, I don't think it sounds complete (and it's background kind of backs this up). Even so, it is a testament to how talented and original Mika Vainio was. Not just for completists but if you are not familiar, start earlier in his career.
  4. Harald - Grosskopf. A tour de force by a Berlin School Master.
  5. M. Sage - Tender/Wading. Just buy this. It is incredibly beautiful and it ranges across genres (from new age to jazz). Will make my best of 2025.
  6. Warmth - Home. See above (it should be clear that this is on rotation)
  7. Igorr - Amen. Simply insane experimental metal that fuses so many different sounds and approaches that it is dizzying. Just stellar.
  8. Gareth Davis - Bj Wat Ook Moog A sparse but moving ambient affair.
  9. Trees Speak - Post Human. Exploring similar areas as their most recent release (#1 above)
  10. Brian Eno and Beatie Wolf - Lateral. Simply beautiful. Brings to mind, Eno's 1985 release, Thursday Afternoon.
